Spring 2011 saw the opening of St Johns Beacon to the general public, opening daily including both weekends and bank holidays (except Christmas and Boxing Day). Standing proudly some 400 feet about the heart of the city centre, the beacon offers stunning panoramic views of Merseyside, Wirral, North Wales (including Snowdonia occasionally) and as far away as the Lake District and Blackpool Tower on clearer days. Not bad for an observation deck that was originally designed to be a chimney.
Your visit to the beacon takes you to two levels, firstly to our infamous Zoo Room (we’ll explain why it’s called this when you come and see us, needless to say it has nothing to do with camels and monkeys), then onto, or rather down to our main viewing platform, which also houses the studios of Radio City, City Talk and Magic 1548. And yes, you get to see inside the studios too**. And maybe even bump into the odd celebrity or two.
The beacon is open to visitors from 11am 7 days a week, closing at 6pm (last entry 5.30pm). You are permitted 50 minutes for your visit which should be ample time for your stay, most visitors usually stay an average of 25 minutes. This though can be extended upon request unless certain circumstances forbid this. Refreshments are available from our Zoo Room , with drinks on offer from as little as 50p. Please note we only have vending machines during the week, even though the Kenco coffee is quite good. On weekends and bank holidays however we have a bit of a café atmosphere going on, with a rather nice young lady on hand to make you that perfect cuppa, should you have bit more time on your hands to kick back and relax for a bit. We’ll even throw in a newspaper and a magazine.
Prices are £4.75 for adults, £3.95 for those fortunate enough to be student or retired and £2.95 for children. Under 5’s free of charge. Price includes a free souvenir brochure, including an impressive panoramic vista of the city and beyond. BOOK ONLINE HERE
Please note you do NOT have to book to visit the tower. We would appreciate a quick email or phone call if you are planning on bringing a group of 15 person or more up. We can also offer private viewings anytime from 10am until 11am, or after 6pm for groups of 10 or more. Again, please email for further details.
For further details on the above please email tours@radiocity.co.uk – If you are interested in hiring the Radio City Tower for a private function, please visit our website www.radiocityevents.com
**please note that during certain times of the day, it may not be possible to access the studios as priority must be giving to our hard working staff members, though please be assured that every effort will be made to make a studio accessible.
