How did I get into radio?

By mistake really!  Radio wasn't my first choice for a career when I had decided I wanted to be a journalist.  I started off doing a bit of experience in the newspaper world, before having a go on the airwaves.  But as soon as I made my debut I knew I would enjoy it.  So, I specialised in Radio Broadcasting in the final year of my Journalism degree at the University of Central Lancashire and tried to get as much experience as possible.  I was freelancing for several stations in Greater Manchester and Cheshire before getting my first full time job. The rest is history!

If you weren't on the radio what would you be doing?

Trying to get rich without working too hard!  We'd all love that! I've always enjoyed being in broadcasting so I wouldn't be too far away.  I used to dance and I would have loved to have continued with that.  Other than that, I think I would have like to be in the police force.

What would you regard as your greatest achievement yet?

Radio City is certainly the biggest and most successful radio station I have worked at in my career so it's a real honour to be part of the team here.  I have also just started some television work which I am really proud of.

What's the best story you have reported on?

I think it is fair to say that most journalists enjoy working on big stories, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are pleasant ones.  I have an interest in crime stories and I have worked on many murder cases such as the killing of DC Stephen Oake, who was stabbed during a counter terrorism raid in Manchester.  I also worked on the brutal and tragic murder of 11 year old Joe Geeling in Bury in 2006.  They were very big stories at the time.  Some of the more heart-warming stories have been when I got involved in the campaign to help save the Re:d Centre in Bury, which looks after disabled children. They were fighting against a cut in its budget and were facing closure and I was invited to go to the High Court in London with them, where they won their case.  I also recently did a story for Radio City about 'A Soldiers Christmas', where I was able to speak to men serving in Iraq and pass their messages on to their families. Other stories include covering the rise of boxer Amir Khan and following Bolton Wanderers into Europe - all good things to work on.

Four words to describe yourself...

Friendly, ambitious, workaholic, confident.

How do you like to relax?

A chance would be a fine thing!  If I do get chance to chill out, I go out with my partner or alternatively, do my best to become a professional coach potato!

What bands/acts are you into?

I like a lot of different music.  Everything from Take That to Snoop Dog, Bon Jovi to Jamiroquai!  I can throw a few shapes and try and sing along to just about anything!

What was the last album you bought?

HedKandi - The Mix 2008

What's your favourite thing about the city?

I am pretty impressed with the Tower that we are based in to be honest!  I am still getting used to being in the city, but I love how friendly and passionately people feel about things here.  Scousers also have a great sense of humour.  I love the culture and some of the buildings are really eye catching.  I really need to try more of the nightlife though...I've heard lots about it!

How would describe Liverpool?

Lively and friendly with something for everyone.  A real community despite being such a large and diverse city.

How did I used to see Liverpool?  Fred the weatherman on the map in Albert Docks for This Morning and the Beatles.  Now...a great city which is getting bigger and better and a fantastic place to work in and be part of.

If you couldn't be in Liverpool, where would you be?

Manchester because I live there (well strictly Stockport) or London would be a nice place to try.  No second thoughts...New York or Australia!

If you were given the power to pass one law right now what would it be?

To have more Bank Holidays.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I used to - emphasis on USED TO - love watching planes when I was younger!  I had binoculars and a radio that could tune into pilots and the air traffic control tower! I would love going to the airport!  Now, I love speedway and I'm enthusiastic about motorbikes, which some may say is a guilty pleasure.  I like to call it a healthy interest.  However, some may argue that my interest in Christiano Ronaldo is an ideal answer for this question...and an unhealthy interest!

If we're talking football...who would you like to see lift silverwear?

Reddish Athletic Under 12's...my other half coaches them!!!
