In January 2010 we cleared normal programming to provide Big Freeze reports. Our output included comprehensive news of which local schools were closed and updates on the roads and public transport.

 

Recently we have run special reports on the Francesca Bimpson trail and background to the tragic story.

 

In December 2009 our Toy Appeal saw kind donations from our listeners of £125,000 worth of toys to children who needed them at Christmas. In September 2009 we ran a 24 Hour Breakfast Show presented by Rossie to raise money for our Cash For Kids. The day raised almost £50,000 in total.

In July 2009 we ran a Cash For Kids initiative called the £50 Challenge where local businesses were given £50 and asked to use their creativity to invest that £50 and make more back for Cash For Kids


Regular traffic news and weather reports can be heard in our weekday breakfast and drive shows as well as when needed during off peak hours.

 

Radio City 96.7 was an official partner of the Capital of Culture ’08 in Liverpool.

In July 2009 our reported Louise Martin spent a week with British troops in Afghanistan. Louise reported on how local soldiers were coping with life on the front line.

 

In June 2009 Radio City launched Pays Your Bills a contest designed to help local people pay their bills during the credit crunch. We've also support local initiatives on recycling, further education and food waste.

 

In May 2009 we were closely involved in Everton's FA  Cup final game with events and opportunities for fans to go to the match or watch at parties in Liverpool. We also hosted a show where Everton fans were invited to our studios for the chance to speak to Everton Mananger David Moyes

 

In February 2009 Radio City's Cash For Kids organised an appeal for Ronald McDonald House Charity to raise money to build a play room in their new Arrowe Park House. The appeal raised £70,000 in total for the house.

 

In January 2009 we organsied an appeal to heighten awareness of the importance or blood donation and the need for platelets. Through our breakfast show we highlighted some stories of those who've benefited from a blood transfusion and held a registration and information day with Blood Services in the Radio City tower. In December 2008 our Toy Appeal distributed thousands of toys donated by our listeners to needy children in the Radio City are who faced a Christmas without presents.

Local events to have received coverage recently include The Tall Ships, Creamfields, The Mathew Street Festival and the MTV European Music Awards.

 

During the past few months Radio City has run campaigns supporting School Meals, the Liverpool Challenge (lose weight campaign) and local council run gyms.

 

During October 2008 Radio City ran a promotion called Radio City Makes Your Day. During the month we aimed to make as many listeners dreams come true as possible. Highlights included giving a young boy the chance to train with Everton, giving a Dido fan the chance to meet her idol and giving a carer who looks after 3 different people a spa and hotel break. Radio City 96.7 was a partner of the Liverpool Comedy Festival 2008. We hosted a preview night in our live area and have given away tickets to the big shows of the festival.

 

Our £1000 Song competition has seen us give away £1000 to listeners who've called in when they've heard the winning song. In addition we ran a competition to design a poster to promote the competition. The winning poster was displayed in the market place.
